Do you REALLY know what you want?

We have now crossed
into 2009 and I find
myself taking a look at the past year. What are the
things I am grateful about? What shifted
or changed
in this year? What areas have I grown in? I really
enjoy pondering those questions and contemplating
my 2006 journey.
But a strange thing ( or not
so strange thing)
starts to happen. I find that those
nagging "negative" thoughts start to pop up around
what
I did not do, what more could I have done,
what I could have done better etc. I suspect that
you understand this
as well.
Now what? What is next? I wish to
definately
stay with the sucesses I had in the year AND I
want to incorporate some of my disappointments into
a plan of action and/or commitment.
A great
place to start is to get clarity around
what you really want in your life by spending some
time identifying what
you know you do not want in
your life in the upcoming year. These actually tend
to come fairly easily for most
people.
Take a piece of paper and draw a line down
the middle. On the top of the left side put the
title "What I do not want" and go ahead and make a
list
of at least 25 specific things you do not want (
ie: do not want to struggle with weight, do not want
to hate
paying the bills, do not want to chase clients
for money). Take whatever time you need to do
that, there is no
rush.
Once
you have completed that, title the column on the second side "So, what do you want"? Take each statement you made on
the left and now turn it into something you really
want (ie: I want to manage my weight easily, I want
to pay
my bills effortlessly, I want my clients to pay
on time, all the time).
Putting down what you know you don't want
really helps us to get clarity around what we do
want. It is when we know what we want that we
can make a plan of action to move towards that
goal.
So how clear are you about what you WANT in
the next
12 months? Working with a life coach can
go a long way in supporting you on your journey in
making 2009 everything
you want it to be. If you
